Sinopsis / Synopsis

"En el Medio" retrata a cuatro familias que habitan un edificio situado en el punto cero de Cuba. Viven en un universo propio entre siete hoteles, en una zona atestada de turistas. Los intentos de renovar el edificio han fracasado hasta ahora, pero la gente mantiene su fe en las autoridades y en la ideología comunista. Un famoso actor, un relojero, un antiguo maestro y un par de antiguos trabajadores de cabaret comparten su opinión sobre sus realidades, mientras ven la telenovela nocturna. Sus historias se entrelazan con la historia silenciosa del edificio como personaje. ¿Podría ser un modelo de buena práctica contra la gentrificación o simplemente un gran ataúd?

"En el Medio" ("In-between") portraits four families that inhabit a building situated at point zero of Cuba. They live in a universe of their own between seven hotels, in an area crowded with tourists. The attempts of renovating the building failed so far, but people keep their faith in the authorities and in the communist ideology. A famous actor, a horologist, a former teacher and a couple of former cabaret workers share their opinion about their realities, while they are watching the evening telenovela. Their stories are intertwined with the silent story of the building as a character. Might it be a good practice model against gentrification or just a big coffin?

ADRIANA GUIMAN (Piatra Neamt, RUMANÍA, 1984) nació en una pequeña ciudad al norte de Rumanía y se mudó a Seattle en 2017, después de terminar un máster en narrativa transmedia y producción multimedia en Estonia. Actualmente, investiga sobre la experiencia virtual cinematográfica a través de su programa de doctorado en Helsinki (Finlandia). Ha participado en muchos proyectos corporativos como productora y tiene múltiples proyectos personales como directora y artista transmedia. Ha dirigido "Therapy of Happiness" (2013), "Last Cry of the Dragon" (2013), "Contraindications: the Health System" (2012), "...love, cigarettes and other demons" (2011) y "Hat of Stars" (2010).

ADRIANA GUIMAN (Piatra Neamt, ROMANIA, 1984) was born in a small town in North of Romania. She moved to Seattle in 2017, after she graduated a master program in Transmedia storytelling and Crossmedia Production in Estonia. She is currently researching cinematic virtual experiences, being enrolled in a PhD program in Helsinki, Finland. She was involved in numerous corporate media projects as a producer and on multiple personal projects as a film director and media artist. She has also directed "Therapy of Happiness" (2013), "Last Cry of the Dragon" (2013), "Contraindications: the Health System" (2012), "...love, cigarettes and other demons" (2011) and "Hat of Stars" (2010).
