Sinopsis / Synopsis

En Guatemala, la sistemática represión a los pueblos indígenas provocó un cruento conflicto armado entre 1960 y 1996 que dejó más de 200.000 muertos, en su mayoría mayas. En un contexto de miedo y amenazas, el fotógrafo Miquel Dewever-Plana trabajó durante años documentando el proceso de exhumación y recogiendo el testimonio de numerosas víctimas que hoy forman parte del libro "La verdad bajo la tierra. Guatemala, el genocidio silenciado". Años después, regresa a las comunidades para entregar este trabajo al pueblo que un día le relató su historia.

In Guatemala, the systematic repression of indigenous people led to a bloody armed conflict from 1960 to 1996 that left behind more than 200,000 dead, the majority of whom were Mayas. In an environment of fear and threats, the photographer Miquel Dewever-Plana worked for years documenting the exhumation process and gathering testimonies of numerous victims that are now part of the book "The truth beneath the ground. Guatemala, the silenced genocide". Years later, he returned to the Mayan communities to deliver this book to those who had shared their stories.

EVA VILAMALA (Berga, Barcelona, 04/09/1975) Licenciada en Bellas Artes por la Universidad de Barcelona, Postgrado en Postproducción de Vídeo en IDEP, Diplomada en Documental Creativo por el Observatorio de Cine y asistente a IDFA Academy en 2010. Inicia su trabajo personal en el ámbito de la videocreación con "Cosas Calladas" (2001), con muy buena acogida en el circuito de festivales de videoarte. Tras vivir dos años en Latinoamérica, surge su interés por el género documental. Realiza su primer cortometraje documental, "Rosal" (2005), Premio del Público en el Festival Barcelona Visual Sound y exhibido internacionalmente. "La verdad bajo la tierra. Guatemala, el genocidio silenciado" es su primer largometraje documental.

MIQUEL DEWEVER-PLANA (París, Francia, 03/11/1961) Fotoperiodista y miembro de la agencia VU, centra su trabajo en cuestiones sociales y violaciones de los DDHH en América Latina. En 2010 recibe la beca Getty Images Grant for Editorial Photography. En 2012 dirige con Isabelle Fougère el web documental "Alma, hija de la violencia", galardonado con los premios DocLab IDFA Award (2012), Sheffield Doc/Fest Innovation Award (2013), First Prize Interactive Documentary en el World Press Photo (2013), Grimme Online Award (2013) y Visa d'Or en el Visa pour l'Image (2013). Autor de los libros "Mayas" (2002), "Hach Winik" (2009), "Alma" (2012), "La otra guerra" (2012) y "La verdad bajo la tierra. Guatemala, el genocidio silenciado" (2006), galardonado con el premio Periodismo y Derechos Humanos en el Festival de Fotoperiodismo Ciudad de Gijón (2008). En 2012 recibe el XII Premio Joan Alsina por los Derechos Humanos. Actualmente trabaja en dos proyectos fotográficos en la Guayana Francesa y en Bolivia y prepara un nuevo documental con Isabelle Fougère.

EVA VILAMALA (Berga, Spain, 09/04/1975) Holder of a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona, a Postgraduate Degree in Video Post Production from IDEP and a Bachelor’s degree in Creative Documentaries from the Cinema Observatory, attendant at the IDFA Academy in 2010. Her personal work in the field of video creation began with "Cosas Calladas" (2001), which was very well-received by the artistic scene of video art festivals. Her interest for documentaries arose as a result of a two-year trip around Latin America. She made her first short documentary film, "Rosal" (2005), Audience Award at the Barcelona Visual Sound Festival. "La verdad bajo la tierra. Guatemala, el genocidio silenciado" is her first full-length documentary film.

MIQUEL DEWEVER-PLANA (Paris, France, 11/03/1961) Photojournalist and member of the VU Agency, focused his work on social issues and human rights violations in Latin America. In 2010 he received the Getty Images Grant for Editorial Photography. In 2012, with Isabelle Fougère, he directed the web documentary “Alma, hija de la violencia”, which was awarded at IDFA (2012), Sheffield Doc/Fest (2013), World Press Photo (2013), Grimme Online Award (Germany, 2013) and Visa Pour l’Image (2013). Author of the following books: “Mayas” (2002), “Hach Winik” (2009), “Alma” (2012), “La otra guerra” (2012), “La verdad bajo la tierra. Guatemala, el genocidio silenciado” (2006), which won the Journalism and Human Rights Award in the Internationl Festival of Photojournalism in Gijón (2008). In 2012 he received the Joan Alsina Award for Human Rights (Spain). Currently he is working on two photographic projects in the French Guyana and Bolivia. He is also preparing a new documentary with Isabelle Fougère.
